LADY ASTOR, M.P.
WELCOMED TO HOUSE OF COMMONS. London, December 1. Tho House of Commons was crowded to welcome Lady Astor (the. first lady M.P., recently elected for Plymouth), and there wero many notables in the galleries. Lady Astor wore a simplo black mid white frock. She was thoroughly self-possess-ed, and walked up the House between Mr. Balfour and Mr. Lloyd George amid loud cheers. She signed the roll and took her seat on the Opposition side under the gangway, among tho Young Unionists—Aus.-N.Z. Cablo Assn.
The sergeants-major of Trentham held a very stiecssfiil dance last night. There was a good attendance and a very "pleasant evening spent. -Miss E. M'liines supplied the music. An enthusiastic meeting of Mr. E. F. Rishworth's Ladies' Committee wan held in Collett's Buildings, I'etone, yesterday afternoon. Mrs. Collins presided over a good attendance. Potior Is of a very encouraging naturo were received and endorsed.
