REV. H. ELLIOTT'S CHARGES
DENIALS NOT ACCEPTED. By TeleeraoU—Press Association. Ashburton, December S. Tlio Rev. Howard Elliott addressed a meeting here last evening. Ho stated that Sir James Allen and Archbishop O'Shea had denied the truth of the rumour to which lie referred at Dunedin, that Archbishop O.Shea had threatened to icall out the Soman Catholics in the Civil Service on stnka if priests and Marist Brothers were not exempt from military service at tuo front. Mr. Elliott did not accept the denial, and challenged Sir James Allen to make public the correspondence which had passed between the Roman Catliolies and tlie -Government 011 tho subject of the exemption of priests and Marist Brothers, together with the instructions that were 'passed to the military service boards with reference to this matter. Mr. Elliott believed, that the publication of the facts would prove an unpleasant surprise to tlio people of tho Dominion.
