REBUFF FOR MR. HOLLAND
ELECTORS REFUSE TO HEAR HIM LOYAL RESOLUTION PASSED Br Telemioh—Press Association. Nelson, December 3. Mr. H. E. Holland was Announced to deliver an address at Murchison to-night, and at the appointed hour just over 100 residents had assembled in the local hall. Mr. J. Brcdbury, a prominent citizen, was voted to the chair, and when ho roso to introduce Mr.- Holland, Mr. A. Thomson, jun., moved the following motion: —"That in view of the fact that the Murchisoii was second to nono in the Dominion in loyalty to the King and countrv in thp Great War, and in view of the fact that the Minister of Defenco had cause to describe Mr. Holland as being throughout tho war disloyal to his King, his country, and the men "who went to fight for freedom, now this meeting of Murehison citizens feels that, though ill full sympathy with the legitimate aims of Labour, it cannot suffer to be addressed by tho Labour representative now oresent,- and every loval citizen is therefore urged to quietly leave the hall." This was seconded by Dr. Warneford. i An amendment vas; proposed tnnt Air. Holland 1 be accorded a fair hearing, whereupon Mr. Holland Raul that »Sir James Allen's quoted statement was unfair and untruthful. Dr. 'Warneford remarked that hir James Allen was not thero to defend himself, and walked out of the hall. He was followed by 79 others, only 22 remninitig "behind. The chairman then declared lumselt in full sympathy "with thp resolution ana also rotired. Tho remainder of the audience then elected another chairman and the meeting proceeded. Those who left the building joined in singing the national Anthem and then dispersed.
