EDUCATIONAL MATTERS
QUESTIONS FOR PAKLIAMENTAEY CANDIDATES. Representatives of the executive of the New Zealand Educational Institute, Federated School Committees' Association of New Zealand, and New Zealand Education Boards' Association, met at the Education Board office yesterday, and considered the replies which so far had been received to the questions'jointly issued bv these thren representative educational booies to candidates for election. In relation to replies it was decided to classify as unsatisfactory any reply not in the affirmative. Replies have been received from over ninety of the candidates, and, a second communication is feeing sent direct. to those from whom replies have not been received, stating that unless a reolv is received before December 10 it will be. assumed that these candidates <io not accept the proposals submitted.
The questions submitted were as follow:— •'
1. Will you undertake to use your vote aud .influence to maintain the integrity of the free, secular, and compulsory svstem of national education?
2. With a view to improving the civic, and industrial efficiency of. the nation, will you support such extension of thu school age and such provision for compulsory continuation classes as arc necessary to secure the physical, mental, and moral well-being of the youth of the Dominion ?
3. Will you support such expenditure as is necessary to provioo a sufficient staff of well-trained teachers, and such school sites, buildings, anil surroundings as will fulfil modern requirements?
■I. Will you use your vote and influence to prevent the undermining of the national system by the giving of privileges at tii" public expense to pupils or teachers of novate schools ?
5. Will you support the proposal to simply al! school requisites free?
On question No. 3 there is absolute unanimity of reply, and a very large majority of the replies accept in full the proposals submitted.
Tho St. .Tolin Ambulance Association makes regular monthly payments out of the balance of hospital ship and war funds to all the military hospitals and Army Nurses' Home in the provinces of Hawke's Bay, Taranaki. and Wellington for expenditure in comforts for the patients. Returned soldiers and friends will no doubt reciprocate on Friday next,' St. John Ambulance Day..
