THE NEW THEORY OF GRAVITATION
• OLD WORLD MAY GO ON AS BEFORE. London, November 'JSProfessor Einstein, concluding an abstruse article in "The Times," siiys: "This comment is calculated to cheer up the devoted Newtonians, whose confidence has i recently been shaken. While the basic principles of tho rew theory of gravitation diverge, widely from Newton's, both theories, in practical application. agree so closely tliat it is difficult to find cases in which the actual difference could be subjected to observation. Newton's clear and wide ideals will for ever retain their significance as tho foundation on which our modern conceptions of physics are built."
"The Times." in an editorial, says: "The new conception makes little difference to the practical world. Tho laws of physics have become much complicated, but wo may measure our land and believe our clocks as before tho emergence at Einstein."—"The Times."
