HIBERNIAN SOCIETY
There was a large gathering of the members of tho Hibernian Society at tho Marist Brothers' School, Hawkestono Street, .oil Monday evening, to welcome homo Mr. I'. D. Hoskins, who represented tho Wellington branches of.the Hibernian Society at the Irish Race Convention. Mr. J. P. M'Gowan presided, and tho Rev. Brothers Eusebiiis- and Dionvsius wore also present. The chairman extended a hearty welcomo to Mr. Hoskins on behalf of those present.
Mr. Hoskins gave an interesting "account of tho proceedings, and of his experiences in tho Commonwealth during his short visit there. There 'vero 3000 delegates present from all- parts of Australia and Now Zealand, 700 of whom came from Queensland. The attendance at the public meeting at Richmond Park totalled 70,000 people. Over two thousand men communicated at St. Patrick s Cathedral on flic Sunday prior lo tho convention, and in the afternoon thers was an attendance of over 10,000 at Fityroy Gardens, where tho St. Aiigustines Orphanage Band played selections. Whilst in Sydney the New Zealnd delegates had an nudieneo with His Kxcel-' lenev the Most Rev. Monsignor Callaneo, the Apostolic Delegate, who _ hoped to visit Now Zealand as soon as his Australian engagements would permit of it. Mr. Hoskins was accorded a hearty volo of thanks for his services, and for his report, and was the recipient of >• beautiful harp with tho wowi' "01-_ eomo" inscribed thereon. Luring tie evening a musical programme was contributed to bv Misses Diblev. Walsh, and llansbv. Mrs. Emmcrson, A.1.0.L., Jlasier Water, and Miss Lily O'Lcary's dancinc pupils.
