PRISONER SENTENCED
The youth Jack Powell Dean, who pleaded guilty to 'being found on the premises of Ellis and Alanton. corner of Lombard Street and Old Customhouse Street, with intent to commit crime, was ]ilaccd in the dock in tho Supreme Court yesterday for sentence by His •Honour the Chief .Tusticc (Sir Robert Stout). Dean was before tho Court on Saturday, but was remanded until yesterday for medical examination. It appears that tho youth is given tn vicious practices detrimental to his health. His Honour said that lie had considered the case, and would give the lad probation on condition that he went to the Salvation Armv. Tho probation "would be for three years, but whether tho lad remained with the Salvation Annv all the time or not depended upon himself, for if he got better it would not be necessary that he should stay there. His Honour intimated that he desired to see the lad at tho meeting of tho Prisons Board in February at Addington. Addressing the prisoner. His Honour said: "All this is being done not to nunish you. but to save you from yourself, and I hope that in n short time you will be fit" to be re. leased. A Salvation Army officer was present in court and took charge of the lad,
