Mr. 13. P. liishwortb, Keform candidate, addressed a meeting of electors nt Hie OdoMloW Hall, Trentham, last jiiuht. and received a hearty reception. Mr. Connell was voted to the chair, lie candidate stated that firm and consistent euvornment was necessary. . lhe Liberal party had had twenty-one years prior to 1912 to curry out the reforms which they were now urging that the Beform Party had failed to carry out. The, Liberal candidate for the Hutt had made special reference 'in the House to the inoreased death duties and increased taxation, and the Ri-aduated land and income tax. He had had twenty years in which to carry into effect what he was now advocating, and what he had urged in that conshtuencv on previous elections. It appeared that this was merely a catch-cry being uso.l iust before the elections, but 110thintr ftver materialised.. The speaker (inoted his Liberal opponents remarks from Hansard, and pointed out that he "Had had ample opportunity of carrying his urufessed anxiety to improve the position into effect. Mr; Rishworth dealt extensively with the labour oifficuHiee, aiid pointed out that the present unrest .ml dWrust was dim to a small section of the extremists, who had captured the lep.di>r£hin of the unions. Mr. Kishworth was accorded a hearty vn"t,i of than!;.? l)y acclamation, there Tiniinr no dissentients.
