FORTNIG HTLY MEETING,

Ihe Lower Hutt Borough Council he'd its fortnightly meeting last night. There wcro present: The Mayor (Mr. E. P. Risliworth), Councillors Willoughjjy Knight, W. Meldrtirn, J. Mitchell, <V. Mwaskil], W. B. Hardy, A. J. Ilolibs, W. Cotton, A. J. West, E. J. Guincss. A letter was received from the Borough Solicitor enclosing draft transfer from the Public Trustee to the council of the strip of land in Harnett subdivision dedicated for drainage purposes, for the council's perusal. It was resolved lo agree to tho transfer.

The Borough Solicitor wrote enclosing a form of resolution provided for in section 117 of the Public Works Act exempting Mrs. Moberg's property in Bridge Street from the necessity to set the frontage back to a distance of 33 feet from the centre of the street. The Mayor moved accordingly.—Carried. Mr. T. F, Martin, counsel to the Municipal Association, forwarded an opinion that there is no power for the council to permit the erection of a gymnasium 011 a recreation ground. The Town Clerk was instructed., to write to the. Lower Ilutt Football 'Glub regretting that under the circumstances permission could not lie granted. The Wellington Cricket Association asked permission to charge Is. admission for adults to _ the Tlult Recreation (around on Christmas. Day and Boxing Day next, when it is proposed to tdny a representative cricket match, Wellington v. Ilawko's Bay.

The consent of the council was granted provided that women and children would not be rbnrged for admission, and that the fixture would not interfere with the arrangements of the local club.
