The child Ims the raro gift of heinu able to suggest the atmosphere of Ihe storv (or song) she is engaged in. Other clover performers were Stella Cluu.-iniin. of Chris-tchurch, Meg Cimino, of Wellington, Sinclair Nrocn, ana Thelnia M'Kenzie. .Such children could enfertoJii an uudienco in any part of the world.
A fine programme was submitted in Iho evenimr. no fewer than twenty-four items bi'injr submitted. Again the Weslev Chuir (under Mr. H. Temple White) save a fine rendering <if "Ho Not. Afraid" (■from "Elijah"), and !ho beautiful part sons "Weary Wind of the West." The Mnrisr.'Bros. School Choir sang "The Canadian Boat. Song" very sweetly, and Hit! Wellington Harmonic Quartet sang "0 Peaceful Night" with much quiet charm. Among the olocutionary items the reciting of "The' Sisters" by Miss Bessie Thomson (of DuneAin). was an especially appcaliiig bit of reh'neo: emotional work, and Miss Ma-isio Burt recit•iml "The Birth of the Opal" with bright freedom of voice and style Hiss Olga Wncked fi singing of "The Sands o' Dee" was much admired; Miss Ida Snelling rave life and meaning to the sadness of "Alv Ships," and Mira M, H. B. Jones exhibited her vocal purity and brilliance of tor.e in "Morning." Among the children little Hazel Johnstone was hill of comic charm in. "Jainmy Face,' and Stella Chapman recited "The Birds Souk" very prettily indeed. Miss Dorothv Talbot' played tho "Troiseme Sdiesuio" with diuiwl brilliance, and Mes Nellie Amies saiiu very sweetly, lhero were numerous dances, lncludniß the iwlJnt of "Youth," included in this most uomnrehensive programme. During the evening the chairman of committee (Mr. V. C. Cray) referred to tho success of the. competitions, and w doiny so returned thanks to the judges, competitors, the etago manager (Mr. \v. Al'Lachlan) tlw accompanist (Mr. Harold Whittle), nnd the Press, 110 then proceeded with the announcement of the championships and tho handing over to this winners of the medals and trophies won, which were as follow:— Ladies' championship gold medal for elocution, Miss Bessie Thomson, Dunodin. , , ~ Men's championship gold medal tor elocution Mr. Lionel Inch, Wellington.
