■ *- r-— ■ MORE FAVOURABLE ASPECT. Br Teleetßph—Press Anociailoa. Auckland, November 17. From the standpoint of tho v general public the etriko which was inaugurated by tho butchers on Saturday has assumed a' more favourable- aspect, for auxiliary labour has been obtained since tho men affirmed their intention to down' tools, and a large percentage of shops were a'hle to announce business as usual this morning. Summarised statistics covering the operations of two concerns—ll. and W. Hellaby and tho Auckland Meat Company, which cater for about 75 per cent, of tho rbtail trade—show that the position of tho former is slightly improved as compared with last Saturday, nineteen of the firm's 2-t shops remaining open. The Auckland Meat Company Lave accelerated their activities, for it was reported this morning that sis of their shops were now attending to the requirement of customers instead of two, as was the caso on Saturday. Tho campaign of the strikers continues in the samo strain as on Saturday. Early in the morning members of the union were noticeable in the vicinity of various branches, but their actions were of an orderly disposition, and nothing was then done to hamper tho operations of the men who are remaining loyal to their firms. In the forenoon a massed meeting was hold at the Trades Hall, and drew an attendance of over two hundred.
