YACHTING
SEASON OPENED. Wretched weather conditions prevailed for the official opening of the vaohtimr season on Saturday. Drizzling rain and a strong northerly wind spoilt all prospects of a successful gathering, and kept many .people away from the boat harbour. However, there was a fair gather- • in" of enthusiasts, and in a short speech, the commodore of the Motor Boat Club, Mr. T. Ronayno, declared tho season open. The official opening took placo in tho club's shed, whero tea and refreshments ' were served. During tho afternoon the Patriotic Society's Baud dispensed musical items. No sailing was done, as conditions wero none too cheerful, and in any case many of tho yachts have not yet completed their overhaul. Provided the weather improves the gathering at Petono next Saturday should prove in every way successful," for the arrangements. for the opening day regatta there are said to bj very complete.
