HOTEL PROPRIETOR FINED
FOB SUNDAY TRADING. Mr. E. Page, S.M., lias delivered reserved judgment at the Lower Hurt in tho case Police v. Eobert Craig Rcid (Mr. Young), licensee of the Family Hotel, who was charged on three informations with selling liquor on Sunday, and also with keeping open for tho 6ale of liquor. Defendant was convicted on the first threo charges (thoso of soiling), and was fiued, on tho first, „C 5 Is. with costs 15s. witnesses' expenses -C 2 65.; on the second, £\0 and costs 75.; and on tho third. wEIO and 7s. costs. Senior Sergeant Bird (who prosecuted) said it was a glaring caso of Sunday trading, and showed studied disregard of the law on tho part of the licensee. The Magistrate agreed with tho remarks of Sergeant Bird that it was a glaring cast?. , , The informations of keeping open tor salo wero withdrawn by tho police., and because it was a first offence tho, licenso was not endorsed. It is stated that an anneal will probably he mado.
