A WELSH LITERATURE PROFESSORSHIP
A sum of money hns been placed at tho disposal of the Court; of Governors for the purposed a Chair of Welsh Literature at; Ihe University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, and tho present reader in Welsh literature. Mr. T. Gwynn Jones, M.A., lins been appointed first professor, says (ho "Westminster Gazette." This appointment has 'created very much interest in literary circles in nnd beyond the Principality, for M,r. Jones will bo'one of tho few professors in l.ho kingdom who has not had an academic career. In early life he was a working journalist, first in his native town of Bangor, under tho late Sir Thomas Gee, and afterwards as editor of the "Herald Cymraes?" at Carnarvon. It. was during this editorship that he won the chair at the National .Eisteddfod al: Bangor. Subsequently he. joined the staff of the National Library, did valuable research work, and in recognition of this was given the Welsh readership al, the Aberystwyth College.
