THE COAL DISPUTE
Certain-negotiations are proceeding at present in connection with the coal dispute, and it' is hinted in. well-informed circles that the prospects of a settlement are improving. Tho parties are not Teady to inake any definite statement. The coal mine owners are still standing by thoir offer of increases in both the tonnage rates and the day wages. The miners are asking for another conference.
The annual meeting .of t'ne Coal Mine Owners' Association will be held in Wellington on November 22, and if no definite step is taken earlier the dispute will he discussed fully at that conference.
