INCENSED TROOPS OUT OF. HAND
UGLY INCIDENTS

Regiment proceeded in a body from Uio barracks, burst through tho cordon of police and attacked the roughs with bolts. Tho roughs replied with stones, and all the available polico were summoned, but were unable to restore order in spite of numerous charges. A large force of trooja was brought to the streets and established cordons, but tho fighting moved to other quarters, and was always fiorce. Eventually armed pickets separated tho Shropshires and escorted them to barracks. There wore some, ugly incidents, and a number of revolver shots wero fired. The Provost Marshal wts wounded. In eome oases the mob chased the soldiers into theatres and hotels. The Shropshires invaded the railway station, smashing all tho glass. Tho (lamago to property is extensive.
