ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY
A meeting of tlio Wellington Acclimatisation Society was held lust night, Mr. ID. J. C. Wifi'en presiding. It was reported thnt 100 brace of pheasants lind been ordered from Canterbury, and that they would ho dtlivercd in Jfarch and April of noxt year. Tho birds would bo liberated bet'oro tho shooting 6eason. The society decided to obtain from Mr. C. J. Lucas's red deer herd, Wnrnham Court, llorsham, Sussex, about tho middle of Septembor, 1920, two two-year-old red deer stags and two yearling hinds. A<lvico wa« received from the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society that--20 brace of Canadian gceso had been ordered from Vancouver, and that the Wellington Society's share would bo allotted when the birds camo to hand, A letter was received from Mr. A. La Souef, Director of the Royal Zoological Society, Taronga, Tark. New South Wales, askinp for details regarding the destruction of penguins on tho islands south of New Zealand. Tho secretary (Mr. C. I. Dasent) stated that ho had replied to the effect that tho necessary information would be forwarded as soon as possible. He had suggested that the Commonwealth Government should communicate with the New Zealand Government on the subject, and that an agreement should be asked fof providing for men-o'-wnr pairollin? tho southern islands, and reporting on tho situation from time to time.
