Tho Feildtnfr Chamber of Commerce is organising a protest movement against tho proposal to cut Foilding out of tho slopping places for tho Main Trunk train. A branch of the Women's Efficiency League, was formed in Palmerston North on Monday night, when Mrs. luneton Parkes, of London, gave a very interesting address. Lady Cbnytor was elected president of tho branch. A resolution lias been passed by tho Kairang.i County Council asking the Palmerston Borough Council to raise ils registration fees for non-working dogs from 7s. Cd. to 10s. (the samo as the county). This was done on account of the large number of owners who registered their dogs in tho borough at the cheaper rate instead of irith the county. A painful accident befell a. young man Mined Murdock, son of Mr. Murdock, Mayor of Shannon. The young man had bia left arm nearly severed resterday by falling through a 6ky!iglit. Ho had enlisted in Australia at the nge of 1G years and had been through four years of war service- unscathed. As the Minister of Education is to visit Pnlmerston shortly, the Terraco End School Committee has decided to place, before him the necessity of procuring further grounds for tho. school, and also that members should meet him with regardlto other school matters. The committoj is endeavouring to acquire four acres of ground at tho back for school nurposes, and it was decided to ask the Borough Council to procuro the balance of five, and a half acres for a recreation ground. Tho Terraco End School Committee is deeply concerned about tbo shortngoin the numerical strength nf its teaching staff, and it was decided to send a strongly worded letter and Mso an extract from tho headmaster's report deal- | ing with tbo subject to tho Wanganui Education Board. Dr. Pntnam arrived back from Sydney by tho Eiverina and returned to Palmerston last night. Mrs. Putnam will remain in Sydney for another month. Briuwlicf-Geiicral Melville nnd Mtb. :Meivillo have arrived in Palmerston. General Mitjville has taken up his duties ns O.C. of the Wellington military district. Commissioner IT. C Hodiler, the Commander of tho Salvation Army forces, arrived in Palmerston yesterday for the pnrposo of conducting an inspection of tbo work in the central (Pnlmevston, North) division.
