WAIRARAPA Tho Masterton County Council is making application to the Government for a loan of JCISOO for tho Kaiduua Bridge, and one of X'UO for tho Stronvar Koad. The Masterton Citizens' Band paraded 31 times during the past year, there being an average attendance of 18 members, is tho result of liho efforts of various collectors, the instrument fund benefited to tho extent of M fii. An endeavour is to be inaue to secure a guarantee of iilOO per year in Wie Ekotahuna district to procure the services of a district nurse. Mr. G. A. Greenwood, manager of tho Masterton branch of the Bank of NonSouth Walos, is at present on holiday leave. Mr. J. Casclhcrg, chairman of the Masterton Business Men's Committee, established during the railway "cut," has received a letter from the <sener.ll Manager of Bnihrays expressing thanks for services rendered in connecldon with tho carriage of goods. On Tuesday morning about 11 0 clock a little girl named Muriel Thomas, aged sixteen months, wandered away from her parenls , homo at Clareville. A meeting of ratepayers is to be called shortly in connection with tho proposal to raiso a loan of .£27,000 for tho extension of the Masterton gasworks, and ono of JM3.000 for (iho kerbing and channelling of footpaths. Mr. R. S. Hamia, of Pacroa, has been appointed assistant clerk to tho Maslorton County Council. Mr. Ilanna ;s a .returned soldier. Ho was for ten years clerk and treasurer to lilic Piako County Council; for throo years assistant town clerk to the Waihi Borough Council; and for some time in the ollico of Messrs. Jackson and Moresby, solicitors, of Paoroa and Waihi. Tho Masterton County Council lias agreed to the transfer of eleven s;ctiona of land on the Upper Plain belonging to Mr. A. P. from liho county to the borough, this providing the Borough Council contributes towards the maintenance! of liho road abutting , on this land. Mr. Whatman proposes to erect ten or eleven dwellings, with .ill modern conveniences. These will bo sold to soldior applicants r.t prices approximating .£IOOO, tlio money required being advanced by tho Government. To pivvent trafficking, Mr. Whatman is prepared to take a second mortgage under which no interest will bo payable by tho mortgagor, or by tho transferee, who obtains possession wilih tho consent of the Wellington Land Board. 'Hie Grey town Borough Council is borrowing JMOO so ns to pay its quota of tlio cost of tho Tauherenikau Bridge.
