BOWLS
MEETING OF CENTEE, A meeting of the Wellington Bowling Centre was held last evening, Mr. G. Hendry presiding. The secretary (Mr. Wood) of the Dominion Association wrote acknowledging the centre's protest against the Southland Centre's programme for its forthcoming tournament, in which very big prize-money was offered. Mr. Wood stated that at a recent meeting of the couucil executive the matter was discussed, one of the councillors having reported that he had seen the poster in question. Since taking office he had not had any application for permission to hold the tournament, nor could ho find any trace of tho same having been passed in Auckland. ' Therefore, the meeting was of the opinion that tho Southland-Association should be asked to explain, particularly as. the prizemoney was out of.the question. He had written to the centre, and was awaiting its reply. '
It was 'reported that some confusion had arisen over the. definition of junior players. Recently the centre defined a junior as a player who had not played in more than, two bowling seasons. Prior to that the definition read in two bowling years. Acting under misapprehension that two seasons meant two years the Island Bay Club recently played threeseason players. A protest against this action on their part was received from the Seatoun Club, and after consideration the centre decided to replay under tho new definition the matches in which the Island Bny Club had participated. After some discussion it was decided to send a number of rinks to the Wairarapa and Manawatu districts about the beginning of February next, and that the clubs bo circularised asking them to forward by January 1 the names of those pir.yers willing to undertako tho trip. It v.i.s reso!v6d that play in the Junior Stars k- commenced as from next Saturday, ilk' Seatoun Club to have the first challenge. Authority was forwarded by r the Dominion Association for the. holding of the centre's toiujiament on the dates previously arranged by the centre. On account of the centre deciding that the Upper Ilutt Club should play all pennant matches away from home, the secretary of that club wrote withdrawing Upper Hutt's entry in the competition. The treasurer reported that there was a credit balance at the bank l: .K7 IDs. i)d. 'Seven clubs were in arrears with their levies.
