HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL
MONTHLY MEETING.
The monthly meeting of the Hutt County Council was held yesterday, tlio chairman (Mr. i\ G. Cooper) presiding There were also presents-Councillors VV. 3. Howell, M. W. Welch, J. U'hitcman, W. Galloway, and I'. Cavamtgh. The inspector of works (Mr. J. »■ Citdby), in the course of Ins monthly report, mentioned that the motor-lorry was to bo brought through from Pahautauiii to Epuni Biding to haul spoil foi footpaths along the main road in tho latter riding, in response to the recent application of soveral ratepayers the coiner on Wairiri lioad had been con siderably improved. There was a slight improvement noticeable in the condition of tho main roads in' the county during the lust month, tho spell of dry weather having hud a very beneficial effect on all the roads. The ranger reported tlv '~.29 head ot stock had been, seized «i, ~,'a roads dicing the month. Action had been takci. in four cases/ and was pending in ten other cases. > The Commissioner of Crown Lanai wrote regarding the roading of the Waddington Settlement:, which work ho asked tho council to undertake at the Department's expense. On account of the shortage of labour it was decided to wait on tne Commissioner, pointing out. that the council was unable to undortakc tho work itself, but was willing to "all tenders. The work would then b» earned out under the nuspiees of the council at the cost'of tho Department. The inspector of works was instructed to put the expenditure of the Government grants in Uan<l Councillor Jl. W. Wolch was appointed the council's representative on the Board of Managcra of the Petone Technical School, The tender of Mr. H. Savage was accepted for tho supply of dog collars.
