A deputation from the Island Bay. Lifeijiving and Surf Club, consisti.i" of Colonel J, G. Hughes and Messrs. G LecUett (secretary) and J. Mitchell (capniin) uoitecl on tho Reserves CoonuittoG of the City Council on Wednesday to voice ccrtain complaints and wants Mr. G. Beckett said.that a pier had been elected at the _B;\y lor the benefit of swimmers, but it lind become a practice on ilie part of some of the fishermen to tie their boats to tho pier, clean llie fish there, and tnrow the olial overlward. Ihey knew this to l>e the case as tho large fish-heads that had been thrown up on the beach were those of hapuko. It was most objectionable, not only to bathers,.but ro the residents of the Bav Mr. Beckett also said that the springboard on the pier was out of repair aud the roof ol the shed used i\v the club, needed repairing. Tho shelters for children also needed enlarging, and he advoca:cd separating the very small children from those between the ages of 12 and l(i years. At the Boy thero was a council as woll as a club life-saving reel, placed one on top of the other. The council reel was below and exposed, whilst tho club reel was on top in a lockfr thai- was kept -locked. As ths result the children played Willi tho council reel and tangled up the rope. On one occasion the uelt il'BOlf had been taken away. it was suggested that ii would ho 'safer if the council reel was placed above the club reel, so that it would be beyond the reach of the children.

Mr. Mitchell asked the Council to grant t.liem permission to sell hot water on tho beach, the proceeds to be devoted to the funds of the Club. The Club was prepared to pay a few pounds towards the enlargement of the" shed and repair oi tho roof!

Councillor Geo. Frost (chairman) said that the matter of tho chausing of fish at tho pior was a serious one, and tiiey wouid probably have to make « new bylaw dealing with the«matter. The other matters brought btfor-e Mie committee would be carefully considered and reported upon.
