SURF CLUBS' TROUBLE

AT LYALL BAY. On Monday evening there was a meeting of representatives of tho Lyall Bay and Maranui Life-Saving anil Surf Clubs under the presidency of Councillor Georgo Frost, when the -question of an alliance was freely discussed. As the outcome of the meeting it was proposed that the City Council, exercising ite prerogative, should order l»th clubs olf thi beach and thnt immediately thereafter one combined club should be formed. On that understanding tboro to havo been a deputation to the Reserves Committee yesterday afternoon of delegates from both clubs, but only Mr. A. N. Fnrnall (of the Lyall Bay' Club) put in an appearance on time.

Councillor G. 'Frost (chairman) explained . that they hud been unable to got the Mai'iumi Club to come to terma as to going out of existence, but they were prepared to allow the Lyall liny Club half of the Maranui Cluli's building, by which arrangement both clubs would remain separate. Under that arrangement it was proposed that tho ladies would go out altogether and form a new club. Tliifc proposal would givo the. Lyall Bay Club ample room. Mr. Parnall-said if tliey got half'tho building, aud it was properly partitioned, he thought it would meet with tins wishes of his cluV.

Councillor L. M'lvenzie, explaining tho attitude of the Maranui Club,, said, that it had sought legal advice, and had ascertained that.if it went out of existence in the manner proposed, it would have to sell up its plant and divide the proceeds amongst its members, which they did not wish to do.

Mr. I'arnall pointed out that the season had b?g!in, and they would like something fixed rip as soon as possible. He mentioned that the Maranui Club claimed to I>3 owners of tho shed, and if that were so the proposal would be no good to them.

Councillor Prost said that the Marahui Club did not own the premises, but had contributed something to the erection of the shed. That, however, could probably I>'' adjusted. He made arrangements to incot Mr. Earn.ill at the filed and settle what should be done. Then the ladi?s could liavo the uso of tho Lyall Bay Club's shed.
