TRADE EXHIBITS, ETC.

(Published by Arrangement.) AUTOMATIC FEEDKRS. WONDERTUJ, FAE.JIING CONTRIVANCES. One of «tho standing indictments that "asphalt troaders" in tho city prefer against farming is that the occupation involves too much drudgery in connection with the feeding of the animals and poultry. There has now been placed on the market a wonderful contrivance (on exhibition at tho show) which enables the farmer to be absent from his farm on holiday or business and rest happy in tho knowledge that both his poultry and stock will bo well wired for in the matter of feed. This ingenious mechanism, which is known as the '"Keliance" Automatic Poultry and Animal. Feeder," ■embodies great utility, saving of labour, time and economy, can bo installed 'anywhere inside or outsido the poultry yard, or house, and works with regularity and precision. It dispenses with tho inconvenience of having to go home early to feed tho fowls, for the "ltclianco" Feeder, when set to any predetermined time, relenses and spreads the coru over the ground when required. The feeder i.s well and compactly made, and will last indefinitely, with the most satisfactory results. A child can adjust it for feeding, and all hands can leave tho farm for tho day with the certain knowledge and satisfaction that tho birds would be automatically fed at tho set times. The district agents are Messrs. Wilson and Porter, 360 Lambton Quay, Wellington. Mr. Wilson is in chargo of the company's exhibit at tho show, and he expresses himself well satisfied with the sales being made. At tho last show many fanners invested in the purchase of the contrivance. The same company is also exhibiting tho "Reliance" Automatic Horse and Cattlo Feeder, which is worked with the same device, releasing tho feed from « hopper containing thy mnximum amount required for any animal or animals, 'iiio samo method is adopted to feed any number of animals at a given moment, without going near them nt the nppoinlcd time. No trouble is necessary to install these machines, which are simply placed on tho walls. A largo iiuml>cr of Ihwn havo been tried out on various farms, with unqualified success. Tho price of tho Automatic Poultry and Animal Feeder is but X 3 lis., including releaser and hoppers. Extra hoppers may bo procured for 15s. (id. The animal feeders nro priced at M Is., with extra hoppers at 355. each. Each contrivance will operate ten hoppers. THE BAR THAT MAKES A PERFECT DAY. An agricultural show without an hotel bar would be unthinkable, particularly lo those farmers who renew old acquaintances and drink to the success of primary producers in uenrral, and present company in particular. Of course, when ono refers to the necessary bar he means an instiliilinn that is well managed, and where the best of discipline obtains. Such is to be found at the Palmerston North Show this week, and when it is mentioned thai Jlr. Sam. Evans, tho popular host of the New Royal Hotel, Palmerston North, is sole controller of the beverago section of tho exhibition, it

I will be readily admitted that tho Assni oiation could not havo placed it in heller 1 "hands. In ordor that all requirements iin that direction might bo met, Mr. Evans has located two bars under the I grandstand—one at each end—one tinder i the People's Stand, and ono in close I proximity to tho Produco Hall, so that j thoro is no excuse if any body parades 1 round in a "dry" or parched condition. 1 .All the best of liquors are provided, 'and Mr. Evans, who, by the way, i s well known and highly esteemed in football ns i well as in commercial circles, can be i relied upon to give i» first-class service, 1 nnd maintain tho high reputation he has ! meritoriously earned for himself ns a j public dispenser of tho very best brands jof the "glass that cheers." There is no j fallacy about that, and visitors to the j big Metropolitan Show at Palmerston ; should make ono of Mr. Sam. Evans's j bnrs a rendezvous as a meeting-place for 1 old friejids and acquaintances. RATES STEEL MULE TRACTOR. Farmers aro always on the look-out at agricultural shows for something that will increase production and reduce working costs, and under those heads nothing belter is being placed on .the market than Rales Steel Mule Tractor, which is being exhibited by the ngents. Manson and Barr Ltd. Its capacity for getting over a field is simply wonderful, and its value is i accelerated by reason of tho fact that it is so economical in its operations. That assertion will bo appreciated when I it is stated that it has ploughed 11 acres I in ten hours, on 12 gallons of kerosene. Its turning radius is only 7J feet, and for flexibility, durability, and all-round ability tho Steel Mule Tractor is incomparable. No farmer.out to obtain best rej suits can afford to ignoro the claims of • tho Steel Mule Tractor being exhibited by Manson and Bn.iT Ltd. This is' the first occasion on which tho "Bates Steel Mule Tractor" has been exhibited in New Zealand. WANGANUI SHOW'S CLAIMS. The AVanganui Show authorities aro leaving no stone unturned to make the annual exhibition, to be held at the fifth largest city in the Dominion on November 19 and 20, ono of tho very best the Coast has seen. With that object in View, and to gather in entries from outside districts, a. spocial offico has been opened at Palmerston Show Grounds, and is located in Stall No. 9, immediately opposite tho People's Stand. Officials aro in attendance to give all information, and receive entries,' and so far they are meeting with considerable success. Good support from other stock districts is being accorded, and tho generous response made should contribute substantially to * record show. In tho Hunters' and Leaping Competitions special trophies ot great valuo aro being offered, including' a solid silver tea service, which has been donated by the President. Tho prize-list is a very comprehensive one. and good prizes havo been allocated in every section of the Show. Cattlo and horses aro receiving special attention, and in connection with tho latter, a ten-guinea trophy is to bo awarded to the best thoroughbred entiro, four yearn and over. The Wanganui Agricultural Association's OfliM at Palmerston North Show must not be overlooked.
