IN A VICIOUS CIRCLE
HIGH prices AND THE COST OF LIVING. (Ecc. November 5, 7.25 p.m.) Capo Town, November 3. Tho Minister for Industries, speaking at tlio opeiiinif of tho National Conference of Employers 'n,nd Employees at Pretoria, declared that the country was getting further and further involved in the "vicious circle," which resulted m high prices and an incrensed cost of living. It was futile to attempt to stop it by fixing prices or wages. The real remedy was efficient production. The State could not. be n passive onlooker in squabbles of Capital and Labour. The reduction of working hours could not be allowed to travel bevond tho point of profitable production.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
