NEW COLLEGE WANTED
CLASS-ROOMS OVERCROWDED AT BOYS' COLLEGE. Simultaneous with tlio shortage of houses is the shortage of schcol-room in, Wellingbu. Nearly every State school is accommodating more scholars than originally intended, as is quite natural when it is considered that some of them ■are from 30 to to years' old, But tho problem is not. confined to the Stnto schools. The national system', whilst it provides for secondary education to winners of proficiency certificated, has not managed to keep apace in providing - them with adequate accommodation. Recently tho eullejje governors were able to case the situntion a little at tho Girls' College by an arrangement ma-do with the Wellington Education Board, and to acquire properties abutting on to tho college grounds. ' That should give a little more elbow room, but it appears that this is only a temporary expedient, as the college is quite full now, and a big accession of students is anticipated early in the new year. Already tho governors have considered the question of establishing a branch college either in Wellington South or in tho suburbs, to relieve tho congestion in the city college, but so far no definite wove has broil decided upon in that direction bv the department (which lias to find the fund.-:). The lease of the Girls' College Hostel in Tinakori Road is about to expire, and .as the leases of some of ths college properties in I'itsdierbcrt Terraco will shortly run out, the board of governors are considering the utilisation of such properties for hostel purposes. Yesterday afternoon the governors paid a visit to the AVellington College, which now has an attendance roll of over (100. It was quite evident to the board that further accommodation will have to ho provided to niret the influx after (he Christmas holidays. A special meeting of the bnard is to be held to-morrow to consider what step? shall he taken. II was patent to I'Vm also that a new college buikliii'.' altrgMlier is badly nreded, and the matter will have to be faced in the near future. Fortunately the Hovs' College has viler.did grounds and ample space for building, but' the money dillieultv makes a. problem of the situation. ________
