Mr. Newton King reports :-At Stony River, on October 28, a bull fair and cattle sale was held. With the exception of a few pens of young cattle the yarding was rather ot a poor quality. Inquiry was very keen, everything selling except a •few pens of two and three-year steers. 'Mixed yearlings, £3: well-grown fifteen, month heifers, £5 12s. 6(1. to £6 10s. i others, £3 Bs. to £4 155.; steers, £5; two and three-year do., £3 155.; fat do., £13 55.; empty heifers. £7 10s. to £8; small do., £5 16s. to £6; forward cows, £10 to £11 155.; store do., £6 2s. 6d. to £7.125. 6d.; dairy heifers were mostly small and backward Bitts. selling from £9 to £14 10a.; cows, up to £15. Inquiry for bulls was only moderate, nevertheless a satisfactory clearance wis made. A few pedigree Jerseys on account ot Mr. W. J. Gray realising from 22gns. to Mgns. I'edigrco Shorthorns, 16gns.; grade Jerßeys, £15l0s.; Jlolsteins, £11 to £20; Shorthorns, £8 10s. to £14 ss. At Whangauiomona, on October 2!), in conjunction with the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Co.; the offering of both sheep and cattle was only lair, inquiry being rather dull. Shorn empty ewes, 28s. lid.; empty heifers, £7 10s. to £8 55.; forward cows, £9 15b. to £11; cowb and calves, £6 12s. 6d. to £8; four-year bullocks, £12 Ids.: mixed yearlings, £3 6s. to £5; Jersey bulls, £7 ss. to £18; Shorthorn do., £8 ss. At Urenui, on October 29, the fortnightly sale and annual bull fair was held. The 6tore yarding was good, satisfactory business resulting at prices ruling generally. Yearling to fifteen-month steers, £3 15s. to £4 10s.; heifers, .£5 to £6; mixed yearlings. £3 65.; binpty heifers, £6 Us. to £8 7s. 6d.; twovear steers, coloured sorts, £5 15b. to £6 Is.; ihros-ycar do., £7 6s. to £9; fat cows, £13 10b.; store do., £6 15s. to £9 2s. 6d.; cows and calves, £8; four-tooth wethers, 395. 7d.; mixed-sex hoggets, 295. 7d.; poor do., £1. Dairy cattio were penned in fair numbers, the quality, however, being rather poor, consequently inquiry was easier. Heifers sold from £8 to £13; cows, £11 to £13 10s. A fairly large entry of bulls of all classes came forward. Pedigree Jerseys sold well,, as also grades ot all other breeds. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Palmerston North, repurt:On Wednesday we held a sale of contractors' plant, on account of Messrs. Smith and Osborne, at I'oxton. There was a good -attendance of the public, and horses and plant sold well. AVe quote:— Horses: Heavy draught niaro, £50; halfdraughts. £34 to £57; aged half-draughts, £14 to £20.
