Palmerston North, November 4. The thirty-fourth annual show of tho .West Coast and Mauawatu A. and P. Association, which opens to-mon'ow, promises to bo a great success, if-the weather only holds line. To-day tho weather Jias varied from strong drying winds to a perfect gale, with occasional showers of eleet and hail. The town is .full of ■people, and alia ccommodation is booked.' v ßie preparations go. to show that exhibits ot all kinds will be ready for judging, which commences to-inorow rooming. It is evident that there will bo a fine • display of motor-tars, which tor tho first time are being exhibited ■under cover ill ono of the extensive lumexes. Stock from Carterton and other shows are already on tho ground, ond a fair number of sheep have also arrived. From all appearances the show of .agricultural-implements is scarcely worthy of such an important district, in , which mixed farming should ho a more prominent feature. Ono of the great features of the show will be the ring competitions, in which tho entries have practically doubled since last year, and most of tho winners at other exhibitions in the surrounding districts are competing. These should, provide some interesting contests! tor the public. The catalogue of draught horses includes entries from Wellington, but the numbers are not up to what the district could produce. Light horses, on the other hand, are an ■ extremely strong entry, in which the saddle classes predominate, some of ■ • tho best' animals in tho North Island • being entered in the hunting classes. Although the entries of cattle are larger than last year, the various breeds should '■' be much better represented. Sheep have fallen off slightly, but. the class for sheep shown under ordinary conditions lias attracted good entries amongst tho email farmers.- and good competition is expected, l'igs will show a falling-oil' in numbers, but'it is ' understood. that they will show'an improvement in quality. .. The' public school exhibits and those, from the technical schools form an admirable display, and gave the judges, who carried out their duties today, con- ■■■ Biderable food for thought. The soldiers' exhibits arc an excellent display, showing what can be done in the way of industry by disabled men whg can no longer follow their ordinary employment. The judging of most of the stock will start at 9 a.m. to-morrow. Technical and Art Classes. The Technical School and ait classes ; rirev entries from as far north as Auckland, and the judges spoke highly of the quality of some of the work displayed.
