At tho Magistrate's Court, Lyttelton, John Charles Lewis was charged with making a false declaration for the purpose of procuring a certificate of marriage from the registrar to marry Alma Alice Loader. Evidence was given that accused signed a declaration to tho effect that tho girl was twerity-one years of age, and that ho married her on July lfi. The girl's mother gave evidence that she informed Lewis that her daughter was not twenty-one years and she refused consent. Accused reserved his defence and was committed for trial.
