| SEVERE DAMAGE AT -MASTERTON BUSH FIRE IN THE TARARUA RANGES The northerly gale which raged in Wellington yesterday and lust night was also felt in the Wairarapa. Our Maste.rtou representative advised last night lliat at -1.30 p.m. a bush firo started in Lhe Tararna ranges near Kaituna. By in.lW at night the whole Tango appeared to bo in flames. Smoke and ashes were carried by the wind to Mastcrton. ■ Tlio Mastcrton Tire Brigade went out to Kaituna to fight the fire. During tlio afternoon the wind was heard in tlio ranges like surf beating on a beach. Cyclonic giisfs blow in Mastcrlon all' day, and by S.IK) tlio wind was blowing with hurricane force. Trees wore blown down, plate glass windows broken, and other exposed objects suffered severely. In the shop of .Messrs. A. T. Dickason and C!o., the contents, crockery, etc., were bio vn through a breach ill tlio window and strewn over the'street. Sheets of corrugated iron in the van! of Messrs. C. E. Daniell, Ltd., builders, were blown about liko matchwood. Several telegraph ca.blcs we.ro detaviied from their pules and were tempor.u'ily repaired with tho aid of ropes. c
