KING'S THEATRE. The undeniable succtss which has attended the screening at the King s Theatre of the picture version of 0. J. Denis's "Sentimental Bloke" has uerided th.> management to extend the season until Thursday next. Tho picturo has attracted crowded houses all through the week and tho management are confident that tho story will still bo going strong when the extended season closes, lho affairs of "The Bloke" and Dorcen lend themselves admirably to tho screen story, and the themo is such that it can bo followed in every ft'etail by everyone. At tho night sessions Mr. W. Crawford sings "I'vo Chucked Up tho Push for itv Donr.h." ' In addition a complete change of supporting pictures is now beinsr shown, and special nuisic is rendered by the Kings Orchestra.
"THE MIKADO" TO-NIGHT. Thrco months of hard prnctico by Iho Wellington Amateur Operatic Society will culminate this evening, .when tho first performance of "The Mikado n) I iho season will be given. The performanco will embody a chorus of i 0 .voices. Mr. Tom Pollard litis trained the chorus in every movement, and ho statea that tho Wellington Society's chorus is tlxo bust ho has bad under him for many years, and he lias no doubt whatever as to tho excellent showing they will mako in tho heavy work entailed mi them, particularly in tho first act. Tho society has again solected ft highly competent caste. This includes Miss Rolen Gard'ner as YuDi-Yum; Miss Jossio Newton as Katisha; Miss Ann Sullivan as PiltiSing: Miss Queenie M'lnernie as PcepIio; Mr. Herbert'F. Wood as Nnnki-Poo; Mr. A. W. Newton as Ko-Ko; Mr. 7innto Wood as the Mikado; Mr. Fred. Twiss as Pooh-Bah; and Mr, Chas. Moore as I'isli Tush. The opera will bo exquisitely mounted and dressed, and Mr. Bernard P. .Pago will direct a full opera orchestra of eighteen performers. The box plan to-day will bo at tho Bristol until midday, and during the afternoon may be consulted at Ned. Perry's, tobacconist's shop, in Manners Street.
ALLAN WILKIE CO. , Thoatre-goers will learn with pleasure that Allan Wilkie, tho English actor, supported by Miss Frediswye HunterWatts, will commenco a season at thu Grand Optra Houso on November JO. "Tliiv Silver King" is the play selected for Mr. "Wilkio's opening night, and will lie produced by arrangement with J. C. Williamson, Ltd. The story of "The Silver King" is too well known to need repetition. Ono of its chief qualities is the rapid succession witli which tho scenes follow each other, so that the interest of tho story is sustained from tho moment of tho murder right up to tho final curtain. Miss Frcdiswyde HunterWatts created a very favourable impression when sho last visited this country. Sho first appeared in Shakespearean plays mid later in "Seven Days' Leavo" and "Tho Story of the Rosary." Included in Mr. Wilkie's list of players are Miss Helen Fergus, Miss Lorna Forbes, Miss Mildred Carlton, Hiss Olivo Francis, Jlr. Guy Hastings, Mr. A. Novillo, Mr. Geiv n!d Ilarcourt, Mr. Henri Dore, Mr. 13. Lander, Mr. Fred, l'atcy, and Mr. FelixBland. Mr. Wilkie brings with him. an entiro company direct from the Theatre Royal, Sydney, where "The Silver King" ran for thrco weeks, to packed houses. The box plan will be at tho Bristol.
QUEEN'S THEATRE. A double-feature programmo of high merit is promised at the Queen's Theatre to-day, and -will be continued throughout noxt week. Gladys Brockwell will be.seen in a new William Fox play, entitlod "The Scarlet Eoad," which presents tlio star in a strong and highly attractive light. In it sho is a woman who withstands the force of temptation even when her affections are most dooplv involved. The scene of tho play is laid in tho upper Bohemian class of society. Lovers of comedy and romance will find their heart's desire in "Caught in tho Act," tho other star feature oil tho programme. In this tale, filled with fun and mischief, l'eggy llyland plays tho part of a breezy, adventurous girl, who defies parents and convention for thosako ut' mischief-ranking.
SOLDIER ENTERTAINERS' TOUR. Te Ivoa Returned Soldier Entertainers, a combination ot "'Diggers" presenting similar programmes to those given behind the lines in France, are now concluding a very successful North Island tour, ami will appear next week as followsOtaki, Monday; Foxton, Tuesday; Levin, Wednesday; Palmerston North, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (show nights).
MISSION CRICKET CONCERT. There was a fair attendance, of tho public at tho oonccrt organised by tho Central Mission Band for the Mission Cricket Club's funds. A well diversified programme was submitted, disclosing some good talent. .Miss Joan Nicholas, who sings with intelligence, exercised a sweet-toned soprano in "Mary O'Neil," and as an encore tang with considerable naivete, "My Heart is Sair for Somobody." Mr. Rupert Meates. a fine bas-'o profundo, sang, "Tho Sea King's Deatti." "A Friar of Orders Grey," and "Requiem" (tho epitaph written by Robert Louis Stevenson for his own tombstone at Vaiilima, Samoa). Mr. Alfred Kingston, a light comedian, made merry over "The Vicar's Farewell" and "I Cannot Keep My Eyeglass in My Eye." Miss Perry ami M/'its Mary Cooley recited very well, nnd Mr. R. Bennett sang Bruno ITuhn's song "Invietus." and "Bonnio Mary of Argyle." Songs wcro also contributed by Hisses D. Ojark, M. Clark, and Wilson, a pianoforte solo by Miss Cawler, a humorous song by Jlrs. George Peek, and n sketch by Misses Aite-hisau and I/ca. An item that was much enjoyed was the little nlav "Tho Wooden Shoe," by Hi*' pupils of Mr. nnd Mra Cul.fovd Bell, tho characters being enacted by Tna Fanjuhar, R.ita Arnold, Tbelma Pe-rkis, Tlazel Bavies, Ada Thompson, Gertrude Austin, Phyllis M'Millnn. Bora Ileyward, and Mainio Hey wood. Tho accompaniments to (he concert items were played by -Misses Clawler and Nicholas,
