RAILWAYMAN'S PAY

The Engineers, Firemen, and Cleaners' Association decided to place on record an emphatic protest against the salaries of executive officers of the Railway Department being raised while the members of the Second Division aro asked to carry on with wages which do not allow suiliciont for n comfortable living. Tho association demands that the l.nrest in the Second Division ho settled first, and wages pnt on the pre-war basis, and that an immediate increase of at least 2s. (id. per day bo granted. It is willing to back the executive in any action' it may take to bring finality to this matte)'.
The Association also objects emphatically against the proposed alteration to tito Classification Act, which gives the, General Manager despotic powers. At a meeting ot -the South Auckland branch of the New Zealand Railway Officers' Institute the following motion was carried: "That this mealing wishes to placo on record its loyally to the executive committee, and asks it to uso ita best endeavours to secure the amending Acli before Parliament being jasscd into law as it affects the mombero of •die First Division."
