BARRY'S MISTAKE

A large crowd watched the Felton-Barry, match despite bleak and threatening conditions. llany "Diggers" were present, wearing FeHoti's colours. From tho start Felton, who won the loss, daringly .made for shelter, while Barry kept in' midstream. Felton's judgment was amply justiiied. Barry, striking bad water, laboiireu rather badly, and Felton quickly established a strong lead. When Hearing the Hammersmith Bridge Felton crossed the river and weathered the rougher water -well. Barry, who was now in smoother -water, spurted, but failed to make an appreciable impression on Mlon's lead. Passing Cheswick. Barry again settled down to make n big effort to reduce Felton's lead, and sustained his eli'ort lo the finish amid encouraging cheers from the low uath. The time was 2aniiii. •Ifljec. Barry started favourite.
The Australian Press Association representative interviewed Felton, who declared that lie was glad to be nble to take the championship back to Australia. Barry subsequently invited Felton to his quarters and congratulated him. Barry, interviewed, said he thought the lucky toss decided the race, and added: "Good hick to Felton."

The "Times" says that Parry 'blundered by keeping m midstream instead of in tho smooth water on fclio Middlesex bank, but anyway Fi'lton got much more out of his stroke, and the race soon became a stern chase. Barry looked round frequently, Falton, sculling with the greatest oaso and confidence, won by much more than the official six lengths. He could have made it twenty.—"The Times."
