POST AND TELEGRAPH DEPARTMENT
OFFICERS i\OT YET BACK TO DUTY. A Tolurii showing the number of officers of the Post and Telegraph Department who were released to join tho Expeditionary Force and who have not yet reported their dischargo from military duty, and tho estimated number of ruappointments, was laid on the table of the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon. Tho number of permanent officers who have not yet reported is 317. Oα being discharged, the report slates, these oliiccrs will automatically resume their former positions at the salary and classification that would have been due had they not joined the Expeditionary Force. It is pointed out that the service of such an oflicor was not. terminated by his joining the force, so that reappointmont is unnecessary. There is no record of tho number of temporary employee who coased duty to join tho' Expeditionary Force. Many of these men were given employment in the Department for only a few weeks until they we-ro required to so into camp. Those men who were temporarily employed for at least three months before going iuto camp will bs re-employ-ed provided thoir sen-ices are required. In view of the very large number of permanent officers who are resuming duty, provision cannot be uindo for many of the men who wevo temporarily employe.! prior to joining the Expeditionary Force.
