Nominations for all events to be run at the Ashhiirsl-Fohiingina Annual Meeting closo this evening. Acacia, tho two-year-old full sister to Desert Gold, which was badly injured while exercising at Hastings, is making n good recover}- from the accident, and it is now certain she will be saved for stud purposes. 1\ Davis, the trainer of the filly, informed "Whalebone" of tlio Auckland "Star" that the daughter of All Black gavo promise of being every bit as good, if not better, than her illustrious fistor; in fact, her work on tho track was mncli ahead of what Desert Gold was capable of doing at the same age. Southland jumped the big fences in the centre of the course at Ellerslie on Thursd-iy morning, fencing proficiently. Ho was ridden by S. Henderson, who is to have the mount on tlio son of Gluten in his engagements at the A .B.C. Spring Meeting. According to southern renorts W. Bush will ride Bon Spsc in tho Stewards' Handicap, while ITnrold Young will liave tho mount on Onslaught. G. Young will ride Kilbrogan. At Biccarton I?. Longley has again put Koesian into work, niul the Elysian gelding is in good condition. Tho steeplechaser Troublesome was fired recently, and he will probably not raco again until tile winter. ,T. O'Rhea is expected back in New Zealand after the Melbourne Cup meeting, but it is probable he will journey to Australia agnin Inter in the season if Mr. W. It. Kembnll returns with his team. D. O'Shea will hnvo the mount on Tobasco in the Milehelson Cun, also Miss 'Muriel in tho Welcome Stakes. The New Zealand Cup suffered a henvy shrinkage through the Friday payment.' Of those who made the previous acceptance, Windorab was scratched, whilo Probity was killed at Wnnganui. In addition to this pair, thirteen horses dropped out, these being Wardaucer. Maiora, Tfetaua, Royal Star. Txivematch, Bonny Briar, Bisingham, Flight Commander, Pnnnino, Warlike, Speeehm alter. Bose Wreath, and the gelding by Mystification —Tattle. The majority bad been tried and found wanting during the last few •weeks, nnd probably Wardaneor was tlio only one whoso projects had been seriously discussed. Friday's payment, therefom. has not prejudiced the prospects of tho race, all the most prominent candidates being included in the twenty-two who stand their ground." • Tn. England, Mr. .T. B. .Tool's Child: wickbnry Stud has been registered as a private. company, with a capital of £100,000, .In .£lO shares, to carry on the business of stud farm owners and breeders of horses., cattle, etc. The directors are J. B. Joel, Olive C. Joel, and H. J. Joel. An excellent list of acceptors, numbering thirty-two, has been secured for the Stewards' Handicap. The chief defection among tho old horses is Bo Peen, but a big contingent of three-year-olds have gone out, among them being Affectation, R.olfnnello, Wnrplane, Hetana, Macduff, Sunart, Sundance, Mustard Pot, Tortrix, and Rose Wreath. It is probable that a very strong field of sprinters will contest the race, and there are enough brilliant beginners in the field to ensure the pace being on all the way. On the Manuka, which went to Lyttelton last evening, the following trainers took horses: P. J. Mason (Gloaming. Bossini. ICnro, Afterglow, Falstaff, and Lovelock); F. D. Jones (Biirrangong and Bonetter); H. Cutts (Moorfowl and .Acquittal); Murray Hobbs, A. M'Auuiy, W. J. Donovan, and D. J. Goodwin.
