Mr. J. Robertson (ex-M.P. for Otaki), who is contesting the Biccnrton seat in the Labour Party's interests, opened his campaign to-night, and stpoko in support of the party's platform. lie said he knew Mr. "Witty, the sitting member, and had a high regard for him personal iy, but they must remember that Mr. "Witty, in supporting the Liberals, was bound in many ways when t«e party whip cracked. The chairman declared tho motion carried by an overwhelming majority. v
It is stated in an exchange that. Lion-tenant-Colonel Mackesy. C.M.&. C.8.E., D.5.0., who returned by the Romuern. will be a candidate fo;: the Marsden seat in the Liberal interest at the general elections. ' Colonel Mitchell held a. meeting of sup nor to re in the Newtown Library l as j ; night. The candidate briefly outlined an independent progressive policy. Colonel Mitchell intends to address a public meeting at Newtown in the near future.
