SAFETY OF EXTENDED MINE
MEN HOLD STOP-WORK MEETING. Hj I^lejrrftDh.--l > rp"H Association. Auckland, October 28. \t a stop-work meeting of the Taupiri minors 011 Saturday it was unanimously decided that the directors should bo interviewed with reference to the safety of tho Expended mine. It was also decided to ask the directorate to meet the executive of the union at Hunt'ly. Inquiry at the office of the comijany to-day elicited the assurance that as far as the officials of tho company are aware no new symptoms affecting tlie safety ot the mine have been reported, and it is assumed that the resolution of the men lias reference to the mutter which has already formed the subject of a report by the Inspector of Mines. It is considered that the directors are unlikely to comply with the request, at all events, immediately, iis the chairman (the Hon. E. W. Alison) is at present engaged in his Parliiineiitary duties and could not conveniently attend such a meeting until after the session.
