_4 NOTES FROM VARIOUS CENTRES (Prom Our Special Correspondents,) WAIRARAPA. The Wairarapa Bacon Factory, which was recently destroyed by iire, is now in the course of erection in ferro-con-crete, and the'freezing chamber has been enlarged to accoiniuodato an additional 200 pigs. Tho machinery, all of which went through tho tire, will need a thorough overhaul, and in several instances now machinery altogether will be required. Mr. Bayner hopes to have tho factory sufficiently advanced to enable him to receive pigs at the factory in a month's time. The poor pressuro of water at the recent Carterton iires has created a good •deal of adverse comment," and is not encouraging to the fire brigade, which is a voluntary organisation. It'demonstrates the urgent necessity for the Borough Council to urge their engineer to push ahead without further delay the work of. clearing the old water mains and making Hi* system up-to-date, which has already been authorised, and from which it was understood ft pressuro of 1001b. would bo maintained. When the fire brigades ran out a lead of hose the pressuro was not sufficient to throw a jet as high as the first story window. When tho turncock concentrated the supply by cutting off tho water from other parts of the town, there was a good pressure, but only sufficient for one lead of hose,. and too late to save the upper story. The, Wairarapa Egg Circle reports the current wholesalo prico of eggs at 2s. per dozen, with a fairly plentiful supply and keen demand. < Tho membership of the circle is steadily increasing, and largo weekly consignments are forwarded to the markets. Court Marquis of Normanbv, A.0.P., recently .vpointcd a committee to make inquiries and report upon a suitable honours tablet for the lodge room, in remembrance of brothers who had served in the war. After making careful inquiries from different'parts 'of tho Dominion, the committee reported upon the results of their labours, and it was finally decided that the designs submitted by Mr. S. A. Mills, manufacturing jeweller, of Masterton was the most appropriate, and an order has been placed with him. The tablet, which is of handsome design, and in keeping with such a worthy occasion, will bo of silver and oak, mounted in a glass case, with a light green velvet background, tho latter being in keeping with a portion of the lodge's regalia. The lodge's emblem will bo worked in silver on tho shield, while there will bo distinctive bars for those brothers who paid the supreme sacrifice. Tho lodgo has decided to exhibit the tablet in a local business place, prior to placing it in tho lodge room.
