THE SECOND BOUND. On Saturday night in tho Town Hall tho second round of tlio heavy-weight championship began, when Petone, who drew a bye in tho first round, wore opposed to Gleeson's. Petone, weighing 81st. 31b,, and looking very fit, took tho platform under the leadership of Mr. \V. S. Brico, and were quickly followed by Gleeson's, with one (rood win to their credit, and also weighing 81st. 31b. As both tennis settled down, the public felt it was going to see. a fine contest, and so it proved. A good start was effected, but,'after pulling for about one minute, a halt was called to make a sligiht adjustment to the rope. Starting again both teams began to put in every ounce, and were giving 'a splendid exhibition. Brice gave a call to his men, and they responded by a pull of one inch, which Gleeson's quickly neutralised by a'fine effort, which brought rounds of applause from their supporters. Petone, however, pnl'ing very steadily, got back their inch, and then gained another inch in tho next two minutes. When four: minutes was called the supporters of both teams cheered and cheered, but answering another call from their captain, sained their third inch, which they were holding when time was called. It was a great pull, and boti'f teams were loudly applauded as they left the platform. In the light-weight division the Italian team' won a very popular victory by about six inches. The, Catholic bazaar will bo continued at the Town Hall to-day. The tug-of-war will rcneh the third stage, when Slunt, OottrclVs team meets Sergeant Wade's, in the heavy-weight, and Hannifen's team will pull Dalton's in the" light wight.
