MEKMERE CASE. A caso of somo interest was recently heard in tho Magistrate's Court at Ila,vera by Mr. W. Wilson, S.M., wherein Alfred William Osborne, factory manager, claimed .£2OO damages'from tho Jterernero Dairy Company for allleged wrongful dismissal. _ ' Tho factory closed down at the end of May, and plaintiff continued as manager until Juno 11, when he was called beforo a directors' meeting, and notified that ho waß engaged for another season. Plaintiff continued asi manager during the off-season, but on July 14 received a letter from the directors that- they were very dissatisfied with Ms management, and stipulating new terms and conditions, failing compliance wherewith the onaa"ement would terminate. Plaintiff did not sign the document, and replied with a spirited letter on Awrust 14. . . ■ „ The chairman of directors thereupon wrote to plaintiff, handing him a cheque for c month's salary, in lieu of notice, nlso the amount of wages from August 1 to August 141- i ■ i-« Plaintiff's counsel said fet plaintid had been unablo to secure another factory 'engagement this season, and contended that his refusal to sign was not sufficient eround for dismissal. •V Press Association menage, from Uawera yesterday stated that judgment waa for the defendant company.
