POLITICAL NOTES

THE END OF THE SESSION. The House of Representatives will meet this evening, and wit] "begin the work of what probably will be the last week of the session. The Government will try to let members away by Saturday nexif. Some country members, indeed, will not easily be persuaded to. stay in Wellington longer in any caso. The political rivals are in the field, and if the general election to be held about December 12, scant time remains for a sitting member' to make a tour of ono of the larger electorates. The Bills now on the Order Paper are the Mining Amendment Bill, Stone-quar-ries Amendment Bill, Railways Authorisation Bill. Electric-power Works Loan Bill, Undesirable Immigrants Exclusion Bill, Divorce and Matrimonial Causes Amendment Bill, Prisons Amendment Bill, Companies Amendment Bill, Dairy Industry Amendment Bill, Justices of the Peace Amendment Bill, Juries Act Amendment Bill, Police Force Amendment Bill, and Shearers' Accommodation Amendment Bill. Several of these Bills are not regarded as urgent, and the Government is not likely to pass them if thoy are found to <rcnpy much time. . Several other Bills have still to reach the' House. They include the promised amendmont of the Widows' Pension Act, the "Washing-up" Bill, and the Appropriation Bill. There are thirty-eight private members' Bills on the Order Paper, but it is doubtful if any of them will be reached again this session. b'omo members are asking for an opportunity to disouss Lord Jellicoe's report on naval defence before the close of the session. ' Tho Prime Minister has indicated that an opportunity msiy arise. The report, in any oase, will be dealt with by tho new Parliament. Time will not permit tho Government to take in band tho very largo question of naval defence during tho present session.
