Advice has been received that Captain J. D. Holmes, of tho Tunnelling Corps, has been mentioned in dispatches. He is returning by the Arawa on November 19. Mr. Walter Labone, of Wellington, has been appointed house 'steward of the Wellington Hospital, vice Mr. H. Fox resigned; There were G" applications. Mr. Labone is at present assistant clerk and storekeeper at the Porirua Mental Hospital. A Press Association message from Hokitika states that Mr. Henry Gerhard Hiedricks,' a well-known settler of Lower Kokntahi, is dead; aged 86 years. He leaves a large grown-up family. Mr. AV. H. J. Pulton, of Kelburn, «, member of the literary staff of the "Post," died yesterday morning as tho result of complications following on a eorious surgical operation, which he underwent last week. The late Mr. Pulton was the fifth son of the late Major-Gene-rnl John Jeffreys. Pulton, Madras Army, and was bom at Totnes, Devonshire, in 18G1. lii his younger days Mr. Pulton gained representative honours in the cricket field, and he was also an enthusiastic supporter of yachting. He leaves a widow—the eldest daughter of Mr. John Blundell-two sons-Mr. J. G. B. Pulton, who saw active service for four yenrs and is still in England, ami Mr. Prank Fulton, of the floyal Air Force, who recently returned from the Old Country, nnd one daughter. Miss Molina Pulton. Council, and William Dibble have been nopomted tors for the purposes of the Fertilisers Act, 1008. Messrs. AV. S. Bamsey and E. J. fliilhrie, of New Plymouth, and M'r. I).' Collins, of Kahutarn. Fcathcrslon, have been appointed officers for the purposes of Part II of the Fisheries Act, 1308.
