j GREAT SERVICES DURING THE WAR. (Roc. October 20, 7.10 p.m.) Paris, October 10. On tho cvo of King Alfonso's visit to Paris "Le Journal" publishes details of his attitude during the war. When Paris was in extreme peril King Alfonso wished to go to France at the head of his cavalry, but iiis Ministers dissuaded him. He instituted a bureau which conducted a huge corresiioiideiice with the purpose of tracing the missing and securing amelioration in the treatment of prisoners. lie conducted personal interviews on, behalf of 120,0<ib French, Belgian, British and Italian soldiers. He obtained pardon for 19 who were sentenced to death, and the repatriation of 70,000 deportees and 21,000 sick and wounded.-Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
