/The October bogey, the last competition of the Palmerston golfing season, was played on Saturday in line, but somewhat windy, weather. J. Lewis (ono of tho latest. returned soldiers) was tho winner with the good card of 3 up. E. Pavitt and P. A. M'llardy were a close second with 2 up. Lewis's win does not, however, alter M'Hardy's lead for the Plunket Cup, which he therefore secures for the season. This is not the first time Mr. M'Kardy's name has been on the cup. Tho best cards hnnded in on Saturday were:—.!. E. Lewis (10). 3 up; li. Pavitt (6), 2 up; P. A. M'llardy (9), 2 up; AV. Seifert (4), 1 up; E. P. Abraham (8), all square; W. L. Fitzherbert (6), 1 down; L. Seifert (1), 2 down; E. 11. Abraham(ls), 2 down; A. Strang (-i),E. Mooro (9), and H. Collinson (11), 3 down. Seifert. The Aorangi Land Drainage Board trustees met on Saturday, when there were present trustees M. A. Eliott (chairman), IT. G. Moore, D. Collis and Hoiden. The Manawatu Homing Pigeon Association opened itti season with an old bird race on Saturday. The winning bird, owned .by F. Hex tall, flew llio distunes from Marton in IGmin. Ilsec. ; with E. Gi-iffiths'fi and R. Jloskings's pigeons second and third. Over 100 birds competed. A requisition has been forwarded to the Palmerston North Borough Council by soft goods dealers, jewellers, painters, and ironmongers, asking that the closing hours of shops should be G p.m. on Saturdays. The requisition will be considered by the. council to-morrow evening.
