The Petone Central Club's green was opened oh Saturday. The Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan), who performed the opening ceremony in the presencfe of a largo number of bowlers and fronds, said ha was pleased to note the progress the club had made since its inception. The Membership had materially increased, and he hoped the club would'ultimately succeed in becoming affiliated. The attitude taken by tiie Wellington Bowling Centre in refusing them affiliation was not sport, lie said. He instanced the casa ot the Oamaru Club, which had become affiliated. The subscription paid by that body was 2As., while vhat paid by th« Poiouc Club was 30>. lit cowlusion, the Mayor wished the club every success in the futurej Mr. T. Green (president) thanked the Mayor for the kind tilings lit had said about the club, and extended a welcome to the visiting bowlers present. Ho also thanked the Borough Council for the conveniences that had been installed, and the accommodation provided on the green. Mrs. Green threw up the first jack, and a match, president v. vice-presi-dent, was plaved, ami resulted in a win tor tho latter's team. During the afternoon tea was provided by the ladies.
