DEFENSIVE ALLIANCE WITH CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETIES

The trade union leaders are-vigorously furthering their plan?- for joint emergency action between the trade unions and tlio great co-operativc societies whereby during big strikes unionists' food supplies will he safeguarded. Tho railway striko gave an impetus to this alliance. The railwayman received coupons ensuring unrestricted distribution of food. Local labour nro now l>einj> ereatc-il throughout the Kingdom with a view to perfecting the seheme. Arrangements are also being made for the payment of a benefit through the co-operative societies' bank. .Mr. Bramley, a membor of the Trade Union Congress Parliamentary Committee, declares that in the event of a widespread strike the co-operativo workera will refrain from participating, and Labour will not bp cut off from its owit supplies.—Aus.-N.Z.
