APPLICATION OF COMPULSION. A statement resard; : compulsory subscriptions to the Wnr loan was made in the House of Representatives by the Minibter of Financo (Sir Jnmes Allen). "The Commissioner of Tnxcfj has been officially instructed to-apply tho provisions of thp Finance Act of last year," said l!be Minister, "but it is proposed that the Taxing Department slia.ll communicate with those who ought to have subscribed to the loan, and that the etat'utorv notification sSwll be sent a few days afterwards, so tha.t they will yet have an opportunity to subscribe without the penalty of a reduced rate of intercst heinir imposed.
