DEPUTATION TO PRIME MINISTER

Mr. J. Payne, M.T., introduced a deputahon from the recently-formed Independent. Exhibitors Association to the Prime Minister yesterday afternoon, and laid before him a request that legislation lie passed, enabling tho picture theatres to revert to th,e hours prevaili!'g before the epidemic. They also requested that t.ie independent exhibitors should bo giver, an opportunity of showing the films, imported by the Government, and it Was stated by several members of the deputation that the. films of big battles on the Western front had not been shown in New Zealand to the best advantage. In any future legislafc'on affecting the picture industry, the association would bo pleased to be consulted. In reply, Mr. Massey said that with reference to tho opening of theatres at the pre-epidemic hours, he thought it very probable that legislate® would ho passed this session, and with regard to future legislation lie would, if possible, obtain the opinion of the association, but lie thought th's might be a little difficult. With reference to the Government war films, he saw them being taken himself on tho Western front. lie was not awnre of what l>eeame of tliem, but he would make inquiries.
