AMATEUR ATHLETICS
The thirty-first annual meeting, of the Wellington Amnteuj Athletic Clu]> was held last evening. Mr. A. Marriott presided, ar-1 there was a good attendance of members.
The annual report slated that two evening meetings were held during the year, which were well attended, also an afternoon meeting held in conjunction with another club which proved a great success in every way. The committee was of opinion that the approaching season would prove a good one for amateur athletics. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of -£2G, which was considered very satisfactory. The cups were not competed for last season, except tho Schools Competition Cup, which wae won by Wellington South School. The. chairman, in moving the adoption, of the report, said tho clul> hud to be congratulated on (he success achieved last season. The two evening meetings were very good, and the afternoon meet, ing'was 'exceptionally good. He believed that two of. the competitors on that occasion, Messrs. Barker and Brown, were destined to become Australasian competitors. He'believed that the approaching season would prove very good, and most successful. The season would Jμ good throughout New Zealand. If the men at the front who did so well-men like .1. Wilton, 11. E. Wilson, J. Lindsay, and D. Mason-returned, they wero bound to have some very successful meetings. He advocated the training of youne athletes, and he suggested that they should provide coaches for the beginners. Mr AV H. Pollock who seconded the motion, agreed Hint the new season would be a successful one.
