By Telegraph-Press Association. Hokitika, October 11. At a meeting of the Westland County Council to-dny,' reference was made to a circular from the Wnih-i Borough Council as to tho alleged scarcity of limber in New Zealand. It was pointed out that there :is no scarcity here, nnd if there was a shortage d'sewherc in the Dominion it was caused by the want of shipping or.other transport facilities. Regarding the restrictive regulations on the .export of New Zealand timber to Australia, it was stated that the Australian markets were being supplied by large quantities of timber from South Aincriea, where no restrictions were put upon export, but inter-trade between Brit'sh eommun.iPes was being lost, nnd was not likely to be restored. A committee was set up to advise the Waihi Council of the actual truth regarding tho timber trade and the harm being done by the restrictive regulations.
